Very cute turtle! Have you googled box turtles to get info about them? I think if you had a snapping turtle your fish might be in danger but I think box turtles are vegetarians. Is there any way you could (temporarily) add some rocks like little stepping stones so he would be able to crawl out of your pond?

Well, I was thinking about adding some kind of ramp, but I don't want to encourage other things to get in. I still can't quite imagine how he gets in--goes to the edge of a piece of slate and falls in? I did look up info about box turtles on the internet and found that when they are young, they eat more meat (grubs, worms, snails). As adults thay are mostly, although not entirely, vegetarian. They don't have any teeth, so they crush their food with their beak. He loves blueberries. Many websites about turtles are written from the perspective of how to keep one as a pet and they mention things like how important it is for them to have a balanced diet. I really, really hope he moves on, but why would he if we have a pond and blueberries?!

Possumlady is right - no harm to fish. You are thinking of adding a ramp? LOL! Bless you!

Is there a swampy area nearby? I always took my visitors to a swampy pond, away from my house - mainly due to my dogs who would use them as rawhides.

You are posting great photos, Cathie! I'm so behind in blogging...

He's very cute, but one does wonder how he gets in and out.

Yeah, you havde gotten down posting photos just fine.
I like the turtle too--hope it stays safe. Too many end up . . .don't even want to think it.
